Anita Carter Healy

December 7, 1937 — May 18, 2026

Anita Carter Healy, age 88, of Saluda passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center in Mathews, Virginia. Anita was born on December 7, 1937, in Wise, Virginia. After graduating from J.J. Kelly High School in 1956, she moved to work in Richmond, Virginia. It is there that she met and married Charles Healy, on April 27, 1957. They enjoyed over five decades together from his proposal on their first, blind date until his death in 2012.

Anita is preceded in death by her parents Claude Richard Carter and Ina Matilda Purkey Carter of Wise, her husband Charles Frederick Healy, brothers Carlos, David, Steven, and sister, Diana Carter Mullins. She is survived by daughters Jennifer Edwards (William), Angela Switzer (Tod), and Melanie Healy-Marquis (Lincoln IV), brother Edward Carter, and a much cherished “adopted son” Richard “Bro” Lewter.

Five grandchildren will carry on her legacy: Tommy Cleek, Michael Edwards (Claibourne), Kaitlin Sorrentino (John), Sarah Switzer (Logan Romine), and Lincoln Marquis V.

Seven great grandchildren will love and miss their “GG”: Tori and Wesley Cleek, Sadie Vance, Rece, and Annie Beau Edwards, and Madison and Harper Sorrentino.

Over her lifetime, Anita served thousands of hours of hands-on volunteering for every community she has ever lived in. She was a faithful member of Forest Chapel United Methodist Church serving as choir director, board and committees member, treasurer of United Methodist Women, member and organist of Riverview Chapter #69 Order of the Eastern Star, fed many Masons in the area, volunteer and auxiliary for Riverside Saluda Convalescent Center, American Red Cross blood drives, Hands Across Middlesex, Meals on Wheels, Kids First, Middlesex Woman’s Club, Southland 20 Year Club, and President of the Middlesex County Museum. The Appalachian Service Project, Heritage Farmstead Museum in Plano, the Contemporary Chorale in Dallas, Chancel Choir and many First United Methodist Church of Plano projects are only some of the many volunteer services Anita performed during her years in Texas.

Mostly, though, Anita’s greatest gift was the profound love she gave all of her family and friends, her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren providing support, nourishment, fairness and faith in God.
