Bernard G. “Bernie” Thiel, 72 of Mathews, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Riverside Regional Medical Center. He graduated from Ferndale High School in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He retired from the Commonwealth of Virginia after 35 years of service as a Correctional Officer with extensive training in Corrections and Law Enforcement. Bernie loved fishing, the Steelers, and his cats.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lee Thiel; two daughters, Tierna Thiel Snipes and Heather Michelle Thiel-Goin (Carl); a son, Lawrence Edward Thiel (Kristie); two granddaughters, June Elizabeth Carpenter and Emily Gleneva Thiel-Goin and a grandson, Michael Brewer Snipes.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, 94 Cricket Hill Road, Hudgins, Virginia 23076 or to the Gloucester/Mathews Humane Society. P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Virginia 23061. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia is assisting the family.
