Betty Barbour Gregory, 88, of Tappahannock, peacefully bid farewell to this life on April 12, 2026. She was born in Chatham, VA on August 10, 1937, to Mr. and Mrs. Stanford Barbour. She lived joyfully and always appreciated life’s blessings bright and beautiful, great and small.

Betty is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of 55 years, Dr. John William Gregory, her parents and her sister Jeanne Straughan.

She is survived by her daughters, Paige Gregory Garrett (John) and Blair Gregory Blanks (James); her grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye, James Lawrence Blanks, III “Tri” (Liz) and Rachel Elizabeth Garrett; and her loyal companion, Tela.

Betty graduated from Tappahannock High School and spent a post graduate year at St. Margaret’s School in Tappahannock. She continued her education at Madison College, earning a degree in education.

Betty was a lifetime member of Tappahannock Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of The Garden Club of the Middle Peninsula, where all club members enjoyed her contributions. Over the years, she mentored new club members and cheerfully shared her wealth of garden knowledge with friends and neighbors.

Betty will be remembered for her love of bridge and her enthusiasm for a party. She was always full of fun and her laughter was contagious. She cherished the time she spent vacationing/cruising with her children and grandchildren. Most of all, she will be remembered as a good friend.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Tappahannock Memorial United Methodist Church from 5–7 p.m.

The funeral service will be officiated by Reverend Rebecca Minor, at the church on Friday, April 17, at 12 p.m.
