Carolyn Tillman Goodwin, 89, of Cobbs Creek, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Born on October 25, 1936, in Newport News, Virginia, Carolyn was the daughter of Mary Tillman and Elbert Tillman. She was raised in Hampton, Virginia, where she attended Hampton High School before beginning her career with Bell Telephone Company in Newport News.

In 1958, Carolyn married the love of her life, Carl Goodwin, beginning a marriage that spanned over six decades. In 1966, she and Carl relocated from Hampton to Mathews County, where they made their home and where Carolyn spent the remainder of her life. She found her greatest joy in caring for her family and spent countless happy hours working in her yard.

A devoted woman of faith, Carolyn was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Cobbs Creek. Her constant faith in God was evident throughout her life.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Elbert Tillman; her brothers, George Tillman, Raymond Tillman, and Vernon Tillman; and her beloved son, Ronald “Ronnie” Goodwin.

She leaves behind her beloved husband of more than 67 years, Carl Goodwin; her sister, Ernestine Tillman; her daughter, Linda Fitchett (Dale); her grandchildren, Jeff Goodwin, Cindy Boyce (Aron), Amy Harris (Steven), and Leslie Hudgins (Kyle); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Zoe Goodwin, Ashton Hall (Laynie), and Emma, Caroline, and Josie Hudgins. She is also survived by many loving cousins, her cherished church family, and her dear friend, Joanne Gayle, whose friendship meant so much to her throughout the years.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate nurses and staff of Riverside Hospice for the exceptional care, comfort, and kindness they provided Carolyn and her family during the final weeks of her life.

In accordance with Carolyn’s wishes, there will be no formal service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carolyn’s memory to Cornerstone Fellowship Church. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, is assisting the family.
