David William Baughan, Sr., of Tappahannock, Virginia passed away on Monday, September 28th, 2026. He was born at home in Essex County on December 26, 1935. He was a hardworking and devoted man who took great pride in providing for his family. He worked for the telephone company for five years and then started and ran his own business, David W. Baughan Bulldozing Service, for over 40 years.
He was a lifetime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, as well as the Dunbrooke Hunt Club. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. A man of few words and a good listener. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and deep love for his family, community, and God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Grace Baughan and his 5 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean Baughan; his children, Robin Boudreaux (Eddie), Dave Baughan (Nancy), and Sandy Gladding (Tilden); his grandchildren, Brent Gladding (Megan), Kelsi Lowe (Ryan), Lee Gladding (Lizzy), and Ryan Baughan (Ava); great grandchildren; Paxton and Anne Paige Lowe, Silas, Ovi, and Maeve Baughan, Callie and Hannah Gladding, and Annie Jean Gladding; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to David’s care givers over the last year: Tammy Schools, Debbie Emery, family members, and Magnolia Manor Assisted Living. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Tappahannock, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church at 11:00. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Faulkner Funeral Home, Marks-Bristow Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Pallbearers will be Brent Gladding, Lee Gladding, Ryan Baughan, Ryan Lowe, Tilden Gladding, and Eddie Boudreaux. Honorary Pallbearers will be Keith Baughan, Wade Baughan, Jerry Jarvis, Dale Medlin, and Junnie Pollard.
In leu of flowers, you may make donations to Mount Zion Baptist Church – Building & Grounds fund or donate to the Alzheimer ‘s Association / Dementia. Mount Zion Baptist Church’s mailing address is 5141 Dunbrooke Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560.
