Don Michael "Mike" Holt passed away unexpectedly on June 20, 2026, at the age of 62. Mike was born on July 18, 1963, in Lufkin, Texas, to David Malone Holt, Sr. and Nancy Rene Fontaine Holt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Malone Holt, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Shawna Taylor of Austin, Texas and granddaughters, Juniper and Daphne Taylor; his son, Michael Holt of Corvallis, Oregon and grandson Elijah Jackson Kingsley-Holt; his sisters, Stephanie Arnold and husband Ronnie of Tyler, Texas, and Cindy Anderson and husband, Dean of Round Rock, Texas; niece and nephew, Megan Lutostanski and Austin Chacon both of Austin, Texas; and his beloved companion, Lavada Deel; as well as extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Mike devoted his entire career to the food service industry, where he worked in a variety of roles including manager, chef, meat cutter, and mentor to many who worked alongside him. Having traveled across the United States, Mike eventually made his home in Virginia, where he spent his final years and found a place that truly felt like home. As retirement approached, he looked forward to simple pleasures—relaxing by the pool, listening to his favorite music, and spending time with family and friends. He was especially excited about an upcoming trip to the Texas Hill Country to reconnect with loved ones and revisit familiar places.
Mike embraced life through the things he loved most. He had a passion for cooking and took great joy in preparing meals for others. He loved the water—whether it was the ocean, a river, a lake, or simply a backyard swimming pool. Music was a constant companion throughout his life, and he treasured his family. Though his time with us was cut short, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed by his family.
"Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy."
