Elizabeth Byrd Kreiter Lackey

Elizabeth Byrd Kreiter, affectionately known to many as “Betsy Byrd” was born in Farmville, Virginia, on April 3, 1945, the second child of Victor William Kreiter Sr. and Lucile Wildman Kreiter.  When she was 10 years old the family moved to Sandston, Virginia, where Mr. Kreiter was appointed principal of Highland Springs High School.  After receiving her diploma from her father in 1963, she continued her education at Radford All Girls College.  She then began a career with Henrico County and was a Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court.  In 1976, she met Bob through mutual friends and after dating for several years they were married in 1980.  After giving up her job and moving to his home on Sturgeon Creek in Deltaville, she quickly transitioned from the city life to living the good life. In 1995 at age 50, the bug to travel on two wheels bit. For the next 25 years, thousands of miles were clocked, traveling from Key West to Canada on Goldwing Motorcycles.   Many miles were spent locating and photographing covered bridges and other points of interest in New England.

Failing health from Parkinsons and Dementia took it’s toll and she passed away on February 12, 2024.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Victor W. Kreiter Jr.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Robert Edward” Bob” Lackey and sister, Carolyn K. Foronda (Patricio).

Per her request all services will be private, and her cremains will be interred in the Kreiter Family Burial plot at Liberty Baptist Church in Skipwith, VA.

Because of her love for all creatures great and small, wild and domestic, it is requested that any memorials be made to an animal care facility of your choice.
