Enos Richardson, Jr.

October 31, 1934 — November 17, 2025

Enos Richardson, 91, died peacefully on November 17, 2025 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Born in Mount Kisco, New York, on October 31, 1934 to Enos Richardson, Sr. and Barbara Humphries, he grew up at historic Brooke’s Bank Farm on the Rappahannock River in Essex County, Virginia with his parents and his three sisters, Jan, Jenifer, and Joanna.

After graduating from Harvard College, he served in the USMC, then worked on Wall Street before realizing he was ready to return to his beloved River. He earned a law degree from George Washington University and opened his law practice in Fredericksburg. He became active in the community, serving on the Rescue Squad, and one term on City Council. Along with six others, he formed the Central Virginia Battlefield Trust, serving one term as its first president. He was active in the formation of the Friends of the Rappahannock. His commitment to conservation of natural resources and preservation of open spaces grew to become his life’s work.

Mr. Richardson is survived by his wife, Ruth Ellen; his sister Jan Morris of Richmond; stepsons David Stephens (Tracy) and Scott Stephens (Kim); nieces, nephews, and many close friends.

Respecting his wishes, there will be no funeral service of any kind. His body was interred in the Richardson plot at Vauters Church. If anyone wishes to make a donation in his memory, he asked that it be to a conservation organization of their preference. His choices were Chesapeake Bay Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, or Association for the Preservation of Civil War Sites.
