Eugene Keeton

December 31, 1969 — May 17, 2022

Eugene Lowery Keeton, 83, of Deltaville, VA, passed away on May 17, 2022.

Gene was born on August 20, 1938, and grew up in Goochland, VA, the son of Harold L. Keeton and Ella Mae Lipscomb Keeton. Following the footsteps of his late Father, he worked building homes and later oversaw significant construction projects all over Virginia. After his retirement, he received his Captain's license and spent years on the rivers of the Middle Peninsula, taking out fishing charters.

Above all, Gene "Papa" cherished his children and grandchildren. His sons; Alan Reid and David Eugene Keeton (Christine); daughter Julie Keeton, his grandchildren; Renee, David Jr., Victoria, Luke, Alex, and Robin; and great-grandchildren who will miss him beyond words.

His favorite moments were spent boating, fishing, flying RC planes, fixing up antique boats and toys, and sharing his love of the Rivah with family and friends. His devotion to his grandchildren found him fixing up antique boats and toys to enjoy. He always believed that something was never too old to fix.

Most of all, Gene was a teacher and a man of undeniable vision. Having a conversation with Gene, no matter the topic, left everyone feeling enriched and enlightened about his life. He challenged everyone to be a better version of themselves. The lessons he gifted his family and friends will forever be treasured.

Gene is also survived by his brother, Freddy Keeton (Suzanne), and his sister, Judy Coleman (Bo), a large extended family and lifelong friends who loved him dearly.

A service will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, May 28, at his home in Deltaville, VA. Proceeding the service, there will be a gathering celebrating his life.
