James Daniel David Jr.

On Sunday November 16, 2025, James D. David Jr. affectionately known as “JD” entered eternal rest at his home in Topping, Va. James was born on January 14, 1943, to the late James D. David Sr. and Ursula Christmon Nash in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

James was educated in Pleasantville, New Jersey school system. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

“JD” joined the United States Marine Corp and served from 1961-1965. James was employed with Philip Morris USA from 1965-1998 and became the first black Superintendent. James owned a commercial fishing and crabbing license. He loved fishing and crabbing. If you knew “JD” him and Sarah would be found in their garage cleaning and cooking his famous hardshell crabs. “JD” loved his garden and shared his harvest with the whole community. James had several other passions such as playing cards with a group of dedicated friends, such as Joyce Medley. James was the Vice President of Beverly Beach Homeowners Association.

James managed and led the Philip Morris USA Industrial softball team to two major championships, including being nominated as all world. Accolades were too numerous to list them. James was inducted into two softball awards, Hall of Fame 1988 ASA Hall of Fame and 1999 USSSA Softball Hall of Fame. His name is also on The Henrico Complex Hall of Fame wall.

James was preceded in death by his siblings, two sisters; Olivia Ursula David and Cynthia D. Nash; three brothers, Bernard T. Nash Jr., Howard J. Nash and Warren L. Nash.

He leaves to cherish his memories with his four daughters; Sandra Brown (Atlantic City, New Jersey), Justine Johnson (Clay), Jeanette David and Dee Dee David; one grandson; two granddaughters and four great grandchildren.

Devoted wife Sarah E. David of 18 years whom also administered healthcare until the last days. Also, his beloved companion “Buddy” the dog; father-in-law, Robert F. Dame; stepson, Jeff Dame; sisters-in-law, Laura Brantley (Alvin), Ruth Fisher (Jason), Tara McConnell (Matt); brothers-in-law, Linwood Dame (Ellen), Robert Dame (Mara), Scott Dame (Gail), Chase Dame and Randy Dame (Aimee); devoted sister-in-law, Laura Brantley and devoted friends Derrick and Gay Banks for their loving kindness and support through his last days.

A service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda, Va. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, is assisting the family.
