James Douglas

December 31, 1969 — October 20, 2022

James Guy Douglas Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 20, 2022, with family by his side. James was born in Newport News, VA on December 23, 1943.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Anne Douglas, his daughter Angela Douglas Hartless of Buena Vista, VA, and his daughter Jamie Wynberry Sears (Keith) of Hartfield, VA. His three grandchildren, Alex Grulke (Karl), Gracie Wynberry, and Owen Wynberry were his greatest treasures. His heart grew even bigger with the addition of his first great-grandson, Sawyer Joe Grulke. He is also survived by his brother, David Douglas (Annette) and sister, Judy Dick and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

James’s legacy was in the relationships he made with everyone he encountered. From the stories he told to the advice he gave, everyone who met him was left with a mark and was better for knowing him.

He graduated from Warwick High School and the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School. He was employed at the shipyard for 37 years, retiring in 1999.

In addition to family and friends, James loved baseball, fishing, campfires, dancing, hunting, NASCAR, and boating, especially cruising the Chesapeake Bay. Per his request, there will be no formal services. To celebrate his life, his home in Hartfield will be open to friends and family to tell stories and share memories on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 2:00pm until 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood or monetary donations to the American Red Cross in his honor. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda is assisting the family.
