James Robert Hatcher

James Robert “Bob” Hatcher, 88, of Deltaville, Virginia passed away on August 23, 2026.

Bob was born on July 26, 1938, in South Boston, Virginia, to Mary Nichols Hatcher and Lonnie Dean Hatcher. He is survived by his brother Lonnie “Doodles” Hatcher of Mount Vernon, Washington.

Bob moved to Richmond in 1960 and worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation as a materials engineer for 41 years. When he retired, he moved to Deltaville where he loved spending time on the bluff with family and friends, fishing, and watching Nascar. Bob was a faithful and dedicated member of Philippi Christian Church where he enjoyed serving in any way he could.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Hatcher; his daughter, Dianne Williams (Charles); his stepchildren, Kim Guidt and Todd Guidt (Tracey); his grandchildren, Cole Williams, Dr. Samantha Williams (great-grand kitty Stella), Griffin Guidt, Zach Hayes, and Andrew Hayes.

Bob will be remembered for his kind spirit, bright smile, easy going nature, and love for dessert.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Harper’s Station Yorktown, ACG Hospice of Williamsburg, and Saving Grace Home Care for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they showed Bob.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 12th , 2026 at 2pm at Philippi Christian Church, 17276 General Puller Hwy, Deltaville, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Deltaville Volunteer Fire Department or the Alzheimer’s Association.
