James Gouldin “Gouldie” Hayes, 87, of Tappahannock, departed this life Sunday, April 10, 2022.
Gouldie was a native of Essex County, Virginia, born in January 1935 to the late Leslie G. Hayes and Louise Lee Hayes. He is survived by his wife LaVerne L. Hayes.
Gouldie was a member of Beale Memorial Baptist Church and a 1954 graduate of Tappahannock High School. During his lifetime, Gouldie served in the U.S. Army, Tappahannock Volunteer Rescue Squad, Tappahannock/Essex Jaycees, and a member of the Tappahannock Town Council.
A visitation gathering to honor Gouldie will be held at Beale Memorial Baptist Church on Monday May 9th from 1-3:00 p.m. A private military burial service will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Gouldie can be made to a charity of your choice.
