James “Jimmy” Phillip Mitchem, 87, of Cobbs Creek, Virginia, entered his heavenly home on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Jimmy was born in Mathews, Virginia, to the late Charlie Lee Mitchem and Hazel Oliver Mitchem.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 63 years, Jane Broaddus Mitchem; daughter, Robin Lynn Mitchem; brother, Lynwood R. Mitchem (Myra Fitchett Mitchem); sister, Selma Mitchem Tremer; and brother-in-law, Ronald E. Broaddus.
Jimmy is survived by his children, Amy Elizabeth Mitchem; Brittany Mitchem Robertson (Devante); James Michael Mitchem (Lynnette); granddaughter, Lauren Mitchem Marks (Jacob); great-grandchildren, Liam and Brynlee Robertson; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Broaddus Rowe (Jimmie) and Sue Broaddus Smith (Roy), as well as many loving nieces, extended family, and friends.
Jimmy graduated from Mathews High School in 1956 and worked as a lineman with Virginia Power, Gloucester, Virginia. He was a lifelong member of Spring Hill Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank his doctors, the staff of Heron Cove 2, and Riverside Hospice for their loving care.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Windsor Gardens Cemetery & Mausoleum, 80 Soles Lane, Dutton, Virginia 23050. The family will receive friends for fellowship and lunch immediately following the service at Spring Hill Baptist Church, 1676 Buckley Hall Road, Dutton, Virginia 23050.
