James Edward Travenski

James Edward Travenski, 101, of Hallieford, Virginia passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Friday, March 29, 2024. Jim was born in Sampson, WI on May 17, 1922. After high school, Jim enlisted with the U.S. Army and served during the WWII and Korean War before he retired in December, 1963. 

After retirement, he then sought a career as a Postman for 15 years with the US Postal Service. Jim loved the outdoors, gardening and fishing. He was passionate about woodworking and making toys for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Braves.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Roger and daughter, Patty. 

Jim “Pa” is survived by his wife of 72 loving years, Gloria Travenski; a son, Scott Travenski (Suzanne); a daughter, Gail Davis (Jimmy) and numerous grandchildren, step- grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation and funeral service will be held at the family’s home at a later date. A very special thank you to Sara Travenski for all of her love and care. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mathews Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8, Hudgins, Virginia 23076, the Mathews Volunteer Fire Dept., P. O. Box 1130, Mathews, Virginia 23109, or to the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, 94 Cricket Hill Road, Hudgins, Virginia 23076.
