Jane Mitchem

Jane Yvonne Broaddus Mitchem, 83, of Cobbs Creek, Virginia passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022 surrounded by her family at Riverside-Mathews Convalescent Center. Jane was the daughter of the late Wilton Elmo and Marie Majette Broaddus. She was a native of Hallieford, and a member of the 1957 graduating class of Mathews High School. Jane was loved by all who knew her and welcomed all openly with a smile and most often a hug. After many years of service, Jane retired from Southern States Cooperative, Gloucester, Virginia. She was a dedicated member of Oriental Chapter # 30, OES for over 60 years and served as Worthy Matron in 1977-1978. Jane was also a dedicated member of Spring Hill Baptist Church and sang in the choir.

Jane was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin Lynn Mitchem; her brothers, Ronald Elmo (Ronnie) Broaddus and Francis Elmo Broaddus.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Phillip (Jimmy) Mitchem; her children, Amy Elizabeth Mitchem of Cobbs Creek; and James Michael Mitchem (Lynnette) of Hallieford; grandchildren, Brittany Mitchem Robertson (Devante) of Gloucester, Lauren Elizabeth Mitchem; a great-grandson, Liam Robertson; a sister, Elizabeth Broaddus Rowe (Jimmy) of Gwynn; sister-in-law’s, Sue Broaddus Smith (Roy) of Hallieford and Selma Mitchem Tremer of Cobbs Creek and many beloved nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Virginia with an Eastern Star service at 6:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Windsor Gardens Cemetery, 80 Soles Lane, Dutton, Virginia. Following the service there will be fellowship with family and friends at Springhill Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spring Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 92, Cobbs Creek, Virginia 23035.
