Jane Brown Rilee

Jane Brown Rilee, age 89, of Urbanna, passed away on February 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Urbanna to Jake and Irma Brown on March 22, 1936, Jane was a 1954 graduate of Middlesex High School and continued her education at Pan American Business College in Richmond, Va. She dedicated her professional life to helping others, working as a social worker with the Virginia Department of Social Services and serving in various communities throughout the state with her husband Randy, a United Methodist minister. In retirement, Jane was an active member of Urbanna United Methodist Church and contributed many years of service to the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She will be remembered for her steadfast compassion, generosity, and commitment to those in need, always offering a kind word or a helping hand.

Growing up on Robinsons Creek, Jane had a deep love and passion for the water and spent many years on the Rappahannock crabbing, oystering, fishing, and kayaking. She passed her passion for the water on to her children and grandchildren, creating treasured memories together. Jane also cherished spending time with family and friends, especially around the holidays. Her quick wit and knack for storytelling brought joy to those around her and will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. P. Randolph Rilee; her parents, James (Jake) and Irma Brown; her brother, Charles Brown; her son, James (Jim) Rilee, and her daughter-in-law Robin Rilee. She is survived by her sons, Phil Rilee (Ruth) and Doug Rilee (Peeriya); daughter-in-law Dotty Rilee; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her sister, Emily McCoy (Ted) of Tappahannock.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7th, at Urbanna United Methodist Church (221 Marston Ave, Urbanna, VA 23175) with a luncheon following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 71, Urbanna, VA 23175.
