Joanne Ruth (Grant) Furey

Joanne Ruth (Grant) Furey, 91, passed away peacefully at home with family on November 10, 2025. She was born on August 19, 1934 in Taunton, Massachusetts, where she spent her early life and studied to become a registered nurse. She moved to Virginia in 1956 with her husband, Thomas J. Furey and with his work, traveled the world for 10 years while raising a family. Later in life, after retiring from Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington, DC, she and her husband settled on Gwynn’s Island, Virginia, where they enjoyed a long retirement.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas in 2017.

She is survived by her four children, Kathleen (Ray), Eric (Renee), Daniel (Kristina), and Matthew (Margaret); nine grandchildren, Eric, Timothy, Caroline, Bradford, Ashley, Lucas, Alexandra, Madeline, and Shannon, as well as one great-grandchild, Saoirse.

Joannne’s children will have a private memorial at a later date. Faulkner Funeral Home, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews assisted the family.
