John Agard

April 8, 1943 — June 10, 2023

John W Agard, Jr, passed peacefully on June 10, 2023, at the age of 80, at his home in Wake, VA.

He was born April 8, 1943, in Ithaca, NY, to the late John William Agard, Sr. and Marian Elizabeth Larue Agard. John grew up in Willow Creek and graduated with the Class of 1964 from Trumansburg High School.

John began his career working on the family farm in Willow Creek as a very young boy and continued his love for crop and dairy farming until his retirement in 2004. In addition to working on the family farm, John worked with other local farmers [Jim Scott, Dan Smith, Scott Crispell, Dave Reynolds, and occasionally as Town of Ulysses wing man]. And for all who knew John, you also knew he loved John Deere.

He felt most fortunate to move with family to Wake, VA, and to construct a pole barn with living quarters which the family named the Agard Barndominium. He enjoyed the view of the Rappahannock River, sunshiny days as he cared for his beautiful and spacious lawn, and the company of all the welcoming neighbors by the river.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jo Ann of Wake, VA; son, John Scott Agard of Ithaca, NY, sister, Nan Colvin [Phil] of Wake, VA, niece Patina [Bill] Janisko, of Wake, VA, niece Sarah Colvin [Dave] of Rochester, NY, niece Stephanie [Joe] Teberio of Dallas, PA, nephew David Agard, of Ithaca, NY, great-nephews Dylan and Tanner Janisko, and Nicholas Teberio, great-nieces Kassidy and Harper Van Heusen and Cadence Agard, and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Lee Agard.

At John’s request, there will not be a public service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, 7358 Main Street, Gloucester, VA 23061.

Faulkner Funeral Home, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, VA is assisting the family.
