John Dale Moody

A loving husband, father and brother, John (76) passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, surrounded by his family. A native of Louisville, KY, attended Eastern Kentucky University where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science. He then attended the University of Michigan where he earned a Master of Arts in Social Work. John moved to Essex County, VA where he began a lifelong career in public service. He spent 7 years with Middlesex County Child Protection Services, served as a Counselor at the Department of Corrections Unit 17 in Warsaw, and then finished his service with the VA Probation and Parole District 1 in Richmond where he retired in 2014. Music played a big part of John’s life as he played the trumpet, performed with the Community Chorus, as well as sang with and directed his church choir. John is preceded in death by his father, Dr Dale Moody, and mother Mildred Moody. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Diane N Moody, his daughter, Ashley M Jordan (Brett), sisters Linda Shirato, Marcia McNamara (Kevin), and Sue Ellen McDaniel, and nieces and nephews.

Details of John’s Memorial Service will be finalized in the near future. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tiffany, Ann, and Julie with Hospice of Virginia, for showing John compassion and care over the last months of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to Hospice of Virginia, the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, or the ASPCA.
