Linda Chatham Sydnor

Linda Chatham Sydnor, of Tappahannock, Virginia, passed away on February 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born and raised in Chatham Village on the banks of Machodoc Creek, Linda carried her small-town roots with her throughout her life. The creek, the village, and the community she grew up in shaped her steady spirit and deep love for family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud grandmother whose care was felt by all who knew her.

Early in her career, Linda worked as an admissions coordinator at Tappahannock Manor Nursing Home, where she worked closely with local seniors and their families. She later dedicated 21 years of service to the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, first as Head Dispatcher and later as Office Manager. In these roles, she became a steady and trusted presence, serving the citizens of Essex County with professionalism, compassion, and quiet strength.

Linda is survived by her husband, James W. Sydnor of Tappahannock, VA; her daughters, Wendy Minor Dunn (Tom) of Bluffton, SC, and Jacky Sydnor Hoover (Dave) of McLean, VA; and her beloved granddaughters, Cassidy Dunn of Bluffton, SC, and Hailey Dunn Gadson (Rashad) of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by her sister, Diane Tanner of Columbus, SC, and her brother, Michael Chatham of Springfield, VA.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond W. Chatham; her mother, Helen Evelyn Chatham; her sister, JoAnn Self; and her brother, Johnny Ray Chatham.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Marks-Bristow Chapel at Faulkner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Essex Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
