Marguerite “Margie” Folliard Hall (affectionately known as “Margie Bacon”) April 28, 1941 – January 26, 2026 Urbanna, Virginia

Marguerite Bacon Folliard Hall, 84, of Urbanna, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on January 26, 2026, with her husband and devoted caregiver by her side, after a long and courageous battle with dementia.

Born and raised in Urbanna, Margie was the daughter of Eugene McKann and Marguerite Richardson Folliard. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Eugene McKann Folliard Jr.; and her daughter, Laura Scott Hall, who was born with spina bifida and passed away in childhood.

Known affectionately by her family and childhood friends as “Margie Bacon,” she lived a life deeply rooted in Christian faith, education, and joyful service. She began her career as a beloved teacher at Chesapeake Academy in Irvington, where she nurtured generations of students with warmth, creativity, and compassion.

Her passion for helping young people reach their full potential led her to co-found Jacob’s Ladder, a residential enrichment program for intellectually gifted, at-risk children. The program was inspired by a 1986 youth mission trip that Margie and her husband Aubrey led with Pastor Don Reid. That experience sparked a vision that would ultimately impact hundreds of students from Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland—many from underserved backgrounds—through academic mentoring, spiritual encouragement, and personal growth. Margie’s leadership helped make Jacob’s Ladder a life-changing opportunity for children with remarkable potential.

In addition to her work in education, Margie was deeply engaged in civic life. She served as President of the Middlesex County Women’s Club, helping lead community initiatives and uplifting the voices of women throughout the region. In 2011, she and her husband Aubrey were honored with the Pride of Middlesex Award from the Middlesex Rotary Club, recognizing their lifetime of shared service to the community they loved.

Margie also led the daycare ministry at Urbanna Baptist Church for many years, creating a nurturing, faith-filled environment for the church’s youngest families. A devoted and active member of Urbanna Baptist, she served through the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), the choir, and children’s ministries, and supported missions both local and abroad.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Aubrey Hall; her daughter, Madge Vosteen, and husband Paul; her son, Will Hall, and wife Leslie; and five cherished grandchildren: Vaden, Stryker-Ann, and Wils Vosteen; and Caroline and Lilly Hall.

Margie was lovingly cared for at home in her later years by Aubrey and her caregiver, Shelia, who was a constant companion and provided exceptional care.

A memorial service to celebrate Margie’s life will be held at Urbanna Baptist Church on Friday February 6, 2026, at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in her memory to Jacob’s Ladder P.O. Box 3, Urbanna, VA 23175.

Margie’s life was a daily expression of her Christian faith, her quiet strength, and her unwavering belief in the power of love, learning, and service. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her—and by the many lives she helped shape for the better.
