Marissa Aiyana Canell, 27, of Mathews, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at her home in Mathews. For the past almost two years, Marissa was lovingly cared for by her devoted mother, Michele, whose compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication carried her through this difficult journey. Their bond was one of deep love and steadfast devotion. Marissa will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her vibrant spirit, sharp humor, and fearless way of living will remain in the hearts of those she touched. We will forever miss her carefree spirit, her fiery soul, and the way she reminded all of us to dream bigger and live without fear.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother and grandfather, Alice and Fred McLaughlin.

Marissa is survived by her loving parents, Michele and Mike Canell; sisters, Gabrielle Gross (Kody), Niccole Tillage (Cody), Airian Diaz (Tony), her loving nephews and nieces, and an extended family.

A private celebration of Marissa’s life will be held with family at a later date.
