Nancy S. Schroeder

Nancy Squire Schroeder, 92 years old, departed this world on September 28, 2026. She was born in Richmond, Virginia to Clifton and Margaret Squire. After Nancy graduated from high school, she attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Virginia, graduating in 1956. She worked as a teacher in Norfolk until she married Thomas George Schroeder in June of 1959. After several moves due to Tom’s employment, they took up residence in Richmond, Virginia in 1962 where she resumed serving as a grade school teacher. They eventually settled in Tappahannock in 1968 where she taught third graders in elementary school. Nancy concluded her career in 1995, with over 35 years of service as a teacher, all of which she thoroughly enjoyed. She took special pleasure in encountering former students in the community as they began their own adult lives.

She is survived by her brother Charles, son David, daughter-in-law Roxanne, three grandsons -- Quinn, Evan, and Roman -- and many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Tom and her son, Thomas George Schroeder, Jr.

She was a devoted mother who especially loved traveling, her book club group, and socializing with friends and family. She also enjoyed antiquing and going to auctions. She will be forever missed by her family and friends.

She will be cremated with a funeral service at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Tappahannock, Virginia on November 7 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Nancy’s preferred charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
