Nora Bates Acree Walker “Biddy”

February 20, 1945 — April 4, 2026

Nora Bates Acree Walker, “Biddy,” 81, of Walkerton, VA went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of April 4th, 2026. She passed peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side. She was born on February 20th, 1945 to John Cabell Acree, Sr. and Mary Evelyn Turpin Acree. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years, Carroll Lee Walker, her three beloved brothers, John Cabell Acree Jr. (Jacky), Ryland Turpin Acree (Turp), and William Oscar Acree (Bill-O). Her nephew Christopher Bates Acree and a niece, Diana Banoo Kameh, along with many beloved cousins and friends. 

She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Ryland Walker (Carlee); A son-in-law, David Douglas Mann; a grandson, William Walker Acree Mann (Wilks); a nephew, Ryland Turpin Acree II (Turp); A great nephew, Ryland Turpin Acree III (Ryland), a niece, Mary Acree Motley, and her husband Porter Motley; great nephew, Porter Dandridge Motley (Ridge); a niece, Sara Acree Brooks; nephews, John Cabell Acree III, William Maxwell Acree, and Darian Scott Kameh; cousins, Mary Willett, Diane Acree, and Mary Maxwell Cumbia. 

Biddy was a graduate of Marriott School in St. Stephens Church, VA, and later received her bachelor’s in Education from the College of William and Mary. She married her childhood sweetheart, Carroll Lee Walker, and they made a home at Restover and later River Isle in Walkerton, VA. After teaching fifth grade at Hamilton Holmes Middle School for several years, she became a homemaker and loving mother. She was a great believer in helping her community, and served on the Pamunkey Regional Library Board for many years, was a member of the King and Queen Historical Society, as well as the King and Queen Community Development Group. She was most proud of her hard work on the restoration of the Marriott School Building, which was later given back to King and Queen County to benefit the community. She was a faithful member of her church, Bruington Baptist serving on the choir, as a Sunday School teacher, and Deacon. 

Biddy was an avid gardener and tennis player. She loved her time on the women’s bowling league in Tappahannock. She enjoyed swimming and boating on the Mattaponi River. In her later years, she joined a kayaking group and enjoyed many river outings. Biddy especially loved taking nature walks with her Boston Terrier, Coco, around River Isle. 

Biddy was known for her friendly, outgoing personality. She never met a stranger. Her kindness was only matched by her huge heart. She was a true Christ follower and lived her life accordingly. 

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18th, 2026 at Bruington Baptist Church, 4784 The Trail, Bruington, VA, 23023. A reception at the church will follow the service. A private burial will take place at Fleetwood.
