Paul Ellis Bing

Paul Ellis Bing, 76, of Diggs, VA, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Born in Newport News, VA on January 18, 1950, he was the son of the late John Humphrey Bing and Bettye George Bing. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Paige Bing; son, David Warner Bing; brother, John Conrad Bing; and his sister, Janis Bing Slaughter.

Paul was a lifelong resident of Mathews County and a graduate of Mathews High School in 1968. After high school, he was drafted and served in the United States Army. Paul went on to found his business, Bing’s Construction, which he proudly owned and operated for over 50 years. He was a longtime and active member of Salem Church Mathews, a congregation he loved like his own family. He faithfully attended church every Sunday and, in his younger years, devoted his time to ministering to the church’s youth group. He especially enjoyed seeing the children and was known for always having candy to pass out to them. Paul enjoyed gardening and growing a variety of vegetables throughout the years, often making sure there was plenty to share with others. He was a faithful and giving neighbor, always thinking of others and finding great joy in serving those around him. He lived a simple life and found joy in playing cards and checkers with his grandchildren, sharing a good meal, playing jokes, and telling silly stories. Above all, Paul faithfully loved the Lord, and his relationship with God was a meaningful and cherished part of his life.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diane Edwards Bing; children, Judy Emanuel (Tate), Janet Herndon (Louis), and Steve Bing (Charlene); his grandchildren, Kelly Letchworth (Jon), Victoria Bing (Taylor), J.C. Emanuel, Lleyton Herndon, Alyssa Bing, Ellis Bing, and Bennett Bing; great-grandchildren, Marvin and Clara Letchworth; his sister, Peggy Farmer (Roy Lee); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Amanda Wingfield, NP, and the staff at Courthouse Family Medicine for the kindness, compassion, and comforting care they provided to Paul.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Salem Church Mathews, 1099 Salem Church Rd, Diggs, VA 23045. Arrangements are by Faulkner Funeral Homes Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, VA.
