Peggy Turpin Mackey

Peggy Turpin Mackey, 92, passed away at her home in Richmond on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Peggy was born on October 4, 1933.

She was a graduate of Mathews High School in 1952, where she enjoyed sports throughout her high school years and was also an honor student. After graduation, she went to work for C & P Telephone Company in Richmond. Her commitment and work ethic left lasting impressions on colleagues, and she contributed significantly to her company’s growth.

She was one of the first women to reach the second level before her retirement in 1985. Outside of her professional life, her favorite pastimes were purchasing art, gardening, and her true passion was playing tennis, which she enjoyed into her 80’s.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack E. Mackey; her parents, James T. and Helen H. Turpin; and her brother, Irving T. Turpin.

She is survived by her nieces, Maxine T. Hudgins, Dianne T. Hurst, Carolyn K. Turpin, Denise T. Fletcher, and their families; special cousins, Robert and Juanita Rice and Robbie; special friend, Rosemarie DiGiovanni, and many friends and cousins.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at H. C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, Hudgins, Virginia 23076. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, is assisting the family.
