Ruth Marmaduke Bareford

Ruth Marmaduke Bareford, 92, of Tappahannock, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025, which also happened to be her wedding anniversary.

Ruth was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Dunbrooke, VA, since her marriage in 1954. She served in various roles with the church and the Baptist Association. Ruth especially enjoyed working with children as a Sunday school teacher and a youth choir director. 

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Herald and Pearl Marmaduke; her sister, Lucille Spencer; her son, Kevin Bareford; and her husband, Walter Ryland Bareford, Jr. 

She is survived by her children, Dean Bareford (Dale) and Steve Bareford (Ellen); her granddaughters, Grace and Libby; her brother, Jack Marmaduke, and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Dunbrooke, with Pastor Warren Gilpin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Corey Beazley, Lane Brooks, Dave Campbell, Kevin Davenport, David Johnson, Matt Jones, and Donald Lankford. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Baughan, Tilden Gladding, Robert Hayden, and Robert Jones, Jr. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Northern Neck Senior Care Community, and her caregivers, Coron Brown and Nancy Burrell who took care of Ruth.
