Shirley Hale Hart

Shirley Hale Hart, of Remlik (Urbanna) Virginia, passed away October 14, 2026.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother and father, Arselle Hazzard Hale and Frederick Ennis Hale of Jamaica, Virginia and her husband of over 50 years E. Garrison Hart, Jr. of Hartfield.

Shirley retired from the Middlesex County Planning and Zoning Department after more than 20 years of dedicated service. She also worked for over 20 years for the Bareford law practice in Saluda. Shirley earned an Associates Degree in Business from RPI (VCU) in Richmond in 1965. She was an active long-time member of the Susanna Wesley Circle of Urbanna United Methodist Church. Shirley loved her family, her gardens and her kitchen. She will be remembered for: her many hours spent preparing meals for those she loved, for years of dancing to Elvis with Garrison, and for her tireless work as Treasurer of the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Sharon Hart Winters and son-in-law Peter Winters of Glen Allen, as well as many cousins and friends.

A Visitation will be held from 5pm-7pm Friday, October 23rd, 2026, at Bristow Faulkner Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at Bristow Faulkner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Jamaica, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Middlesex County Volunteer Fire Department PO Box 71, Urbanna, Virginia 23175 or Bethel Memorial Cemetery c/o Urbanna United Methodist Church, PO Box 217, Urbanna, Virginia 23175.

Shirley’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to her caregivers: Debbie, Jerri, Kelly, Linda, Lori, Michelle, Rachel, and Wendy for their kindness, support and care shown to Shirley and our family during her illness. The family is grateful as well to the Susanna Wesley Circle, her UUMC church family, Shirley’s Remlik neighbors and friends for a lifetime of friendship, support and generosity of spirit. Finally, to the Riverside Walter Reed Hospital 2nd floor staff and Riverside Hospice for their professional care and compassion toward Shirley in her final days.
