Vernon Aubrey “Audie” King Jr, 68, of Tappahannock, Va passed away on September 22, 2025 with his life-partner, Betty by his side. He is now reunited with his parents, Vernon Aubrey King and Marie Taylor King as well as Nancy King and his sister Terry Sydnor. Audie was born on June 24, 1957 in Lottsburg, and was a loved and respected lifelong resident of Tappahannock. He enjoyed being outdoors, you could always find him cutting grass, working on his pool, or most recently, crafting beer top tables, a creation he mastered from YouTube, and lovingly shared with those around him.
Audie worked for FedEx Corporation, during which time he was affectionately known as “The FedEx Man” by countless people, before he retired after 28 years of service. He was very proud of that.
Audie was a beloved member of the Tappahannock-Warsaw Moose Lodge for over 15 years, always with a smiling face and a kind word to say. His mustache, which he sported from the young age of 16, earned him the proudly accepted nickname of “Sam Elliott”.
Audie is survived by his two beloved children Vernon Aubrey King, Ill (Kelly) and Amanda King Smith (Steve). He also leaves behind his cherished partner Betty Eby, of nearly 25 years, along with her daughter Elizabeth Montero (Jeremy).
Papo left behind six grandchildren whom he loved very much - Haley King, Kaleigh King, Danny Ray Marks, Alyssa King, Jude Montero, and Jonah Montero, and his first great-grandchild Zamiya Dubose, his sisters, Ann Mundie (Ronnie), Nancy Phillips (Richard), Vanessa Gupton, Jennifer Davis (Steve), brother Lewis Schools (Debbie), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His family and loved ones will forever feel this great loss.
The family will receive friends at Faulkner Funeral Home, Marks-Bristow Chapel, in Tappahannock on September 27 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life in his honor will take place the following day, September 28, at the Tappahannock-Warsaw Moose Lodge from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
