William Curtis “Bill” Thacker, Jr., 92, of Lancaster, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
Bill was a graduate of McIntire High School in Charlottesville, Virginia, and went on to earn a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Virginia in 1955. Following college, he served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve until 1964, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.
A respected businessman, Bill was the President and Owner of Thacker Construction Company and Builders Equipment Rentals, both in Charlottesville. He also served his community as a member of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. An avid boater, he was active in the Richmond Power Squadron and the Virginia Yacht Club, where he served as a past Commodore. His civic engagement extended to national politics, having been a delegate at the 1972 Republican National Convention.
Bill's passions included boating, stamp collecting, model railroading, and flying ultralight aircraft.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, JoAnn Wilson Thacker (2001), and his second wife, Sally Rohlfing Thacker (2025); his parents, William Curtis Thacker, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Edwards Thacker; and his half-brother, C. Forman Dirickson.
He is survived by his sons, William Curtis Thacker III (Marie) and Thomas Martin Thacker II (Wendy); his brother, Peter Nichols Thacker (Nina); two nieces, six nephews, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, is assisting the family.
